Day 68 - Wintertime?

Wintertime gives us some nice views and I have been trying to capture it somewhat over the last few days. This was the first I shot, of course with the iPhone for I was on my way to practise. To me it captures the snowy feeling quite well...
What do you think?
Let me know.

Cheers

Day 66 - Derby Time

It probably takes you one or two seconds to see what this photo is all about. Well it's about volleyball...
I play volleyball (not to wonderfully though) in my hometown and have made some pretty good friends there and one of those asked me to take some shots of her (their) match against the #2 in line (them being the #1).
A nice derby to be sure, plus an excellent excuse for me to try out Volleyball Photography.

Day 65 - Evil Teddy

I saw, I lit, I shot.... That is, in short, what happened here. Or better maybe, I lit, I saw, I shot... New lights have to be tried out asap and I got a few new ones this week. After aiming one at wall for a little bit I decided to aim at this substitute for a model... Read on after the jump >>

Fact or Fiction?

Dear Readers,

I understand I have let some of you down in the last couple of weeks or so. The radio silence was so utterly complete that some even believed me to have emigrated to the far regions of Sumatra where others believed me dead. Well that wasn't the case....
Most of you who know me know that I went through a rough spot and that updating this site was the last thing on my mind.
A lot of that has been sorted out and it feels like time to pick up where I left those 36 days ago.
Yes ladies and gentlemen, it has been 36 days of silence on this site (well Vermeer's Birthday being the exception)
I have been taking photos every day for the last month and most are even worthy of putting up here, which is something I will be doing today.
I will be updating as many as I can with no or only some words to keep the photos warm and secure.

All in all, I'm back and from tomorrow on there will be a post every day :D

Cheers for reading my blog...

Days 28 -> 64 - Hipstamatic Overload

This is what I would call a Hipstamatic overload. During the last few weeks I did not have my camera around at all to make any photos. Luckily I did always have my iPhone with me (life line to the world) so I have shot a lot of pics with Hipstamatic. I do understand of course that it is a lot of the same thing. Well you will have to learn to deal with it....... *smile*
From tomorrow on there will be a lot less Hipsta photos and a great deal more regular and flash photos.

Day 40 - Vermeer's Birthday

Okay Okay! Vermeer's Birthday is actually on the 41st day of the blog, but today the skies were so fitting that I simply had to write about it.

Day 27 - A brief sun

On this day the sun was out for almost a few minutes and I took the time to bask in its warmth. Of course I also took a few shots that day, but that was mostly of the great clouds that were out as well.

Take a look after the jump......

Day 26 - Cardbox Car

No really lengthy story today, just some pics I ran across when I was walking around Mill while on camp with the Youth Choir I play the piano at.

I saw the car and loved the sight of it :)
Whipped out my Hipstamatic and presto :)

Slightly more after the jump........

Day 25 - New Stand

A couple of weeks ago (on Day 13 to be exact) I killed one of my stands so it was time to get a new stand. I had been wanting to get this new stand for quite some time, but I didn't for I had perfectly good stands. Let's call it that the gods were willing to get me my new stand by killing the old one :)

It had rather interesting shapes so (on recommodation of my gf) I decided to take some photos of it.

Day 24 - On the bus again

I spend quite some time on the bus, but you have probably figured that out by now :)
As I bought a new lens for the Hipstamatic app (you can buy several different lenses for the app and each has its own look to it) I simply had to try it out.

This one is called Roboto Glitter and it has a glittery (duh) but also a very centralised look to it.

Back in 4

Good Gracious Me,

I'm off for the weekend and will be back on monday.
I know that I haven't posted the photo's from yesterday yet, nor those of today, but I will update the blog asap when I get back.

Of course I didn't want you to go without any photos at all, so below are a couple of pics from my holiday in Malaysia.
Enjoy :)

Btw, taking the camera with me (of course) and hopefully run into something cool over the weekend :)
So for four days no posting, but I hope to see you all again here when I get back.

Thank you all for reading my blog and commenting on my photos.

Day 23 - Suit Up!

And there we were, Wednesday the 23th of the 10th month, International Suit Up day :D If you don't know what it is to suit up, then shame on you. Naaaah, just a day that all men should go in suit the entire day, and to the great delight of several ladies, some of us did so today :)
I of course wore a suit today for I am a devout worshipper of Neill Patrick Harris.
Long story short, today was Legen - wait for it - dary!

More after the ever awesome jump!

Day 22 - Pain

A couple of years ago I did a photoshop collage about pain and love right after I had read a couple of books. I had recently read Romeo and Julliet, Macbeth, Extremely Loud and Incredibly close and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. All books (well mcBeth a bit less perhaps) are stories filled with love and the pain that comes from love. Whether it is a case of not being meant to be together, being betrayed by your best friend, Losing a loved one, or being denied the return of the love you have given or are giving.
Although not really sure why, I had to think of that collage and decided I wanted to do it again but now as a photo.

Day 21 - Smoke 'em if you got them

Smoke 'em if you got them. You used to hear this a lot in film, back in the days when it was still cool or at least normal to smoke.
Don't get me wrong I am all for the banning of smoking from public places, but it always had a cool ring to it.
And to be fair, I have said it probably once or twice to often *ashamed look*

Well I reckon that the same was said to this man who was working on one of the town centre's stores.

Day 20 - Feeling ill

On day 20 I was feeling quite ill, and to my opinion it has gone on more than long enough. Of course, I should just stay home and get better by resting, but that is not exactly my style. So today as well I took a shot and I made a macro studio setting of how my life looks like in the last couple of days, blurry.

More after the jump as usual :)

Day 19 - One of those days

Day 19 was one of those days. I'm still a bit ill, but had to go to work anyhow, and in the evening I had to play the piano. So not a really productive day for photography.

As it turned out I didn't do much with it, but I am still rather proud that I made a photo in the end, and although it's not really a great picture, it still has a lot to do with photographic theory.

The rule of thirds is what we will take a look at right after the jump.

Day 18 - A Man

Today some headshots of one of the most characteristic man I know. This is a man who has seen, heard and done so much and I used to spent great times just listening to him or telling him about me.

I coincidentally ran into him yesterday evening, and since I was packing my newly revised 1 light portrait setup with me, I couldn't let this one pass and I did a 5 minute shoot with him.

Since I haven't discussed with him whether or not who would mind being on this site, I will merely post the photos (without name) and will not divulge any more.

Just the photos today!

Day 17 - On the Road Again

I just love shooting pictures on buses, which btw is a totally confusing plural of the word bus, but more on that another time.

Like I said, I love to shoot people at bus stops or buses. They all have a strange silent contemplating look on their faces. Sadly, people don't take kindly to shoving a telephoto lens in their faces while on the bus, or don't really like the sound of a clicking shutter. Hipstamatic it is then.

Day 16 - Shots of Painted Light

I actually had two ideas for the photo of today and one of those I'm keeping for tomorrow, but the other one was LightPainting.
And since most of you reacted really enthousiastic to the lightpaintings I did earlier last week, and some of you asked for more.

But, and I said it before, it isn't as easy as it looks!

Extra, Extra. Read all About it!

Hello There! As most of you know I do also have my own site on which I work on my portfolio and other projects. Recently I have uploaded my first finished series, it's called Power of Music.

Day 15 - The Tale of Two

The photo you see to your left has a pretty entertaining story to it, although the actual tale took place a couple of months ago.

The photo is where I shot my second shoot for a client :)

So jump through the looking glass and straight into the Tale of Two.

Day 14 - Highlights

Quite a few of you asked me to explain the specular highlights I am often talking about, and although I throw in some simplifying terms some times, I can imagine it can be hard to picture it.

Luckily this is a photography blog, so what better place to show you exactly what it is all about.

Day 13 - Hell Yeah

Today, as promised, I believe I have made up for the bad photos of the last few days. For on this day, Day 13 (wooohhooooo, scary) I have shot a friend of mine and it was great!

Completely unexperienced and nervous, but willing to try, she went along for the ride, and next to turning out brilliant, the shoot was a lot of fun.

Day 12 - Running out of Time

Pffffff........ I am really commited to this project, but although I am only shooting in day 13 some days it is a pain in the proverbial backside.

Some days it feels like a race against the clock, especially when you have a lot to do during the day.

Day 11 - Fighting my way Through

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."

As most of you will know, that line is by the great bard himself, ladies and gentlemen, Mr William Shakespeare. (Applause, the crowd is going wild, women are throwing underwear on stage and men are fainting)

Before you jump on, please take a second to think about the photo and what you think it's about.

Day 10 - Dried Up Bodies

Rain Again today.
I love the Winter, but I could easily go without Fall!

Bloody, bloody, bloody rain!! I could easily do without.

Let it rain at times I don't want to photograph stuff outside!

Ah well, photography works pretty well inside as well

Day 9 - Coffee Break

Today I felt a bit tired and the headache didn't help either. Of course I tributed it to going out last night, but as it turned out all I needed was a cup of fresh coffee.
And although I didn't found that out till after shooting a couple of frames of this black gold of gods I was absolutely grateful to a friend of mine who suggested I make this picture.
Thank you sooo much :D

Day 8 - Puts a Smile on/Coming to Get You

Well I guess today is deserving of a little celebration, for I made it to week 2.
I am still having a lot of fun, and am definitly learning from the whole ordeal!
So I decided I was allowed to fool around with Light Painting today and that would be my photo of the day. Deserving? You tell me!

Day 7 - Grey skies + Rain = Flash

Just like the first week is over, so is the nice weather in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. At the moment we have little else but a dreary rain drizzling down from the grey skies the entire day.

Day 3 - Man on Campus

As promised, Day 3 on Sunday :)
And as I mentioned before I did some shooting on Day 3 (see Post of Day 3) and as it happened to be I was on campus and we had some nice sun out. Shooting time.

Day 6 - Need some help on Ludwig Jobs

As many a photographer can tell you is  not to clutter your portfolio with 10 shots of the same person, just pick the one with the WOW-factor.
Another thing many photographers can probably tell you is that it is sometimes really hard to pick one
This is where you come in, right after the jump..

Day 5 - Hipstamatic Still - Pepsi

There we go. Day 5 and still going strong :)
Today I continued my journey through Hipstamatic Land and I found this neon Pepsi sign, and started to get really curious about how it would look on Hipstamatic. Luckily it was right there in my pocket because that is one of the advantages of the iPhone and the Hipsta app!

More after the jump.....

Day 4 - Hipstamatic

Well this day was a weird one. I went to bed around 8.30am this morning after skipping the night, but during the previous day I bought a new app for my iPhone and I love it.
Just have a quick look at the pic to the left and read on on the pros and cons on this app.

More after the jump.....

Day 3 - Ehm, what, where, when....

Well Day 3 has arrived and left already and since I spent it shooting, playing volleybal and drinking, I haven't yet been able to upload my photos from yesterday (I spent the entire day in bed because I went to bed at 8.30 this morning).
I will get to Day 3 on sunday, but in the meantime you can have a look at my Hipstaprint photos from this morning. I am absolutely raving about the Hipstomatic app for the iPhone, as you will be able to read about in the Day 4 Post, plus the best thing is you can upload to FB and to my (mail)server so I can post them here :)
So go on to read Day 4, and I will post the Day 3 photo here on Sunday.

Day 2 - Bus Stop

Today, as many days of the week, I was waiting at the bus stop and I saw this lovely old man waiting for the bus as well.
And as usually I had my camera out just looking around for a nice shot to take.

After a few shots the bus finally came and I squeezed this on off

More after the jump....

Just wanted to share this one......

Okay, okay!
I know I am supposed to upload photos I made that day, for that is what the entire project is about, but I really wanted to share this photo.
I do also know that you probably have seen it in some way in my last photo, because it was on my screen while I made the shots of my desk in the study.

To be honest, I think it is one of the best photos I ever took, and I really love it.

Day 1

Day 1 has started and the first photo is in.

I was busy revising (dutch: studeren) for my didactics class tomorrow and I thought how great it would be if the sun would come shining in through the window.

So I grabbed my camera and decided to shoot off a few pics...

365 Project

Hello Friend, Family, Coworkers, and hopefully some strangers as time progresses.

I have decided to start a 365 project and although many, (many, many, many) photographers are doing that right now (so I'm not that original), chances are high that you have never heard of it before, so I will briefly explain what it all entails.
